Yellowstone National Park

Castle Geyser eruption

Old faithful geysir

Yellowstone National Park was established by US Congress as a national park in 1872,and is located primarily in the state of Wyoming, but also extends into the states of Idaho and Montana.
The geothermal features at the park are a result of water passing trough extremely hot rock underground, which is still cooling down from a volcanic eruption thousands of year ago.
In the 1960 and 1970 it was disvovered that the main feature of the park is a series of three volcanic craters.
The eruption of these three volcanoes occured 2,1 million years ago,1,3 million years ago and 640000 years ago.
The main feature of the park is the geysir old faithful, which erupts approximately every 91 minutes.
As well as the Old faithful Yellowstone has a spectacular landscape and a rich wildlife, including Grizzly bear, elk, moose, mule dear, black bear, wolverine, wolf and sometimes the seriously treathened lynx could be present.
A place to go for an adventure and to see nature perform.

The Rocky Mountains

Mount Timpanogos

Colorado rockies

The Rocky Mountains form part of an almost continuous chain of mountains stretching from Alaska down practically the entire length of the west coast of the Americas.

The Canadian rockies include five national parks,Banff,Jaspar,Yoho and Kootenay.
The Canadian rockies are carved out by glaciers and this resulting in sharp, craggy peaked mountains seperated by broad valleys created by glaciers.
The highest is the Mount Robson with its 3954 m.
The rockies provide the opportunity to explore one of the most beatiful wilderness areas imagninable.
Well worth a visit.

The Grand Canyon

The Muddy Colorado River from Navajo Point.

A sunset on Grand Canyon

The grand canyon you will find in northern Arizonas Grand Canyon National Park.
It was cut into layer after layer of the clorful sedimentary rocks of the Colorado Plateau by the Colorado river, and is one of the worlds most spectactular landmarks.
The youngest rocks,at the top, were laid down by an inland sea som 260 million years ago and a journey down into the canyon peels away millions of years of geological history as the fifferent layers of rock-red stained limestone, sandstones, shales and mudstones, down to twisted granites and schists and the river bed, which was laid down more than 1,7 billion years ago-are revealed.
Not only the past of the Grand Canyon is unique, but also its share size.
Its 1,5 km deep at the most and stretches more than 16 km across at the most.
Its magnificent scenery makes it a true landmark of the worlds wonders to visit.

The Great Lakes

North Americas five grat lakes-Erie,Huron,Michigan,Ontario and Superior-lie on the Canadian/US border and were carved out of the landscape by grat glaciers during the last ice age, then filled with meltwater as the glaciers retreated.

These interconnected lakes make up the largest body of freshwater on the earth, with a volume of 22812 cu km and a total area of 151681 sq km.with their main outlet to the Atlantic Ocean via the St Lawrence river.

These lakes are so large that in places it is impossible to see the lakes shores and its size also affects the areas climate.

If you are visiting to watch wildlife, explore the landscape or to take in the scenery from the lakes, the scale and beaty of this wild area will leave you breathless.

Hoodo mountain

Hoodoo montains you will find on the northern edge of the Iskut River in remote north western British Colombia.
This flat topped volcano is among others placed in a region with volcanic activity.
Hoodo mountains rises to the west of the stikine volcanic belt, and is considered to be an active volcano that could erupt again.
Its flat top is some 3-4 km in diameter.
The flat top was formed beneath glacier ice,and its erliest eruption occured around 100000 years ago.
Most of the volcanic deposits found here are lava flows, and the most recent lava flows seems to have originated from under the ice cap.
You will find the twin Glacier to the northeast and Hoodo Glacier to the northwest.
Only the southern slope, which reaches down to the Iskut River floodplain,is free of ice.
If the volcano should erupt through its ice cap or or onto the surrounding glaciers, flooding of both the Iskut and Stikine could cause many problems for the nearby community.
A fantastic place to visit, with a magnificent view of the moutain and its surroundings.

Niagara falls

The Niagara Falls lying across the border between Canada and the United States.

They where formed towards the end of the last ice age, when the glaciers of the Laurentide ice sheet retreated and created the great lakes.

On the American side of the border, the Niagara falls carry about 10 percent of the flow, while on the Canadian side the horseshoe falls carry far more.

The water flows at an astonishing 35 mph.The thunder of the water is when you are faced with the sheer noise of almost 185000 cubicmeters of water roaring into the gorge every minute.

When entering the base of the horseshoe its a truly wet experience, but the photogenic views as the sun creates rainbows is really fantastic.

A well worth place to visit for travellers and dont forget the camera, you dont want to miss this.
